Florida Tarpon fishing reportWell Tropical Storm Alberto has the weather blowing and raining right now.  I am on the couch going through a bunch of great photos Jenni took last week.  Lots of huge fish have been coming boatside for their photo session.  We are getting back after them tomorrow morning.

Tarpon season is in full swing here at home in the Boca Grande area.  This time of year they can be found on the flats, along the beaches and in the passes.  In May and June I concentrate most of my efforts fishing for the tarpon moving along the beaches.  Pods of tarpon along our beaches average 40-100 fish.  Sizes range from 80-120 pounds.  150 pound tarpon are more common than 50 pounders.

Florida tarpon fishing reportWe use a variety of live baits.  Crabs, threadfin herring, pinfish and even squirrel fish.

May-August is the peak of the tarpon migration through this area.  I still have a few dates open in June and July.  We catch some of the largest fish of the season during these months.

Last year in July and August the tarpon fishing was as good as we have seen in years.  With the cooler water temperatures we are having, I expect this year will be no different.

I am still open June 14th.  I also have a few openings in July and August.
